S.C.R.A.P.S  Free to try, In game Upgrade is $2.99 Developer: Amplified Games Version Reviewed: 1.0.1

SCRAPS There is a FREE version to try.

[Editors Note: On iTunes App Store there have been a few people reporting that this app crashes when it loads. I have not had this experience but you may want to shut your device fully before you install just incase.]
Control your robots to collect the lost energy pads to complete the level. This is a Lemmings style game with 40 levels (upgrade for the additional 30) AND you can make your own levels too! Worth your cash.
This follows on from the Lemmings style of game where you are in control of the robots and you must use them to make a path that they can follow to get the lost energy pads.

The SCRAPS robots spawn one at a time (but quite quickly one after the other) and you can control what they will do in order to complete the puzzle to get to the next level. Three possibilities can happen when you click them. One function is you can choose for the robot to “explode” over an area, so it will create a hole for the others to fall down. A second function is for the robot to become a piece of floor so the other robots can walk on top of it. Lastly, the robot can also repair any areas that have damage, so prevents you from getting to these lost pods.

The good points about this game…

The good thing about this game is that it is a pretty cute interface. The robots are likeable because of their colors and movements. Also, the puzzles are set at the right level, you can keep trying the level until you are able to complete it, or you can go to a different level and come back to it later.

I think this is a great option because sometimes you are stuck and you just can not figure out the solution. It often helps if I can go to a different puzzle and then come back to it, to be able to look at it differently.

The SCRAPS are limited, you only get a certain number of them, and they can die pretty fast if you are trying to figure out the level and they keep falling off a platform. This is good though because you can see the path they are traveling and need to make some solution to get them to the pods.

This game does have a help menu so you can get some information about how to play, but once you do the first level which talks you through it, it is pretty easy to just get straight into this game.

It has a great range of levels, (40 levels) that you need to work through and interestingly enough, it also has a level editor. This is a great little feature and it would be fantastic if more games integrated a level editor. It really makes it seem a lot more value for money. There is a little community with their levels as well so there is a large scope for extended play of this game.

Upgrades…

Some planned upgrades listed are to have other types of SCRAPS as well as more levels and more pieces in the environment. As it stands though, it’s a fun game that requires some thinking through in order to be successful. I liked the SCRAPS robot and it was pretty intuitive how to play, just clicking on the robot and selecting what you wanted it to do.

Some bad things….

Ack – Music is annoying as heck! My brain is bleeding! Turn it off! Other than that there really isn’t all that much negative to say about it. There is a good scope of levels, and although it will become a bit “samey” at some point, if you are a fan of these puzzle Lemmings style games, then there is enough scope to play it for a very long time.

Overall…

If you are a fan of puzzles and Lemmings then this game will be a real treat. I wasn’t head-over-heels in love with the game, but the more I played it the more I liked it. It’s value for money and provides you with hours of fun. I liked being able to make my own levels, and there is a massive 40 levels (with in app purchase upgrade at $2.99) to get through anyway! They have included hiscores as well as being able to add friends. This is a real little corker for anyone who wants a quick dip in for a level or two whenever you are bored.
