What will be the main announcements tonight and will it meet the hype?
Very excited for the announcements at tonights WWDC10 the conference where Steve Jobs will deliver a keynote to tell us what are the changes, new products and generally spread a bit of that *magic* he talks about. For me I am excited because over a week ago I got an iPad. I was looking forward to getting the device, I thought it would be “neat” and fun and that, but it was not what I was expecting. It was far more.
I have been using it for work, for writing up my notes, for drafting up designs, for discovering new recipes, for getting and replying to email, for watching movies and podcasts, for reading the news regularly… the list goes on. I thought it would be a device that I went to for things when I was a bit bored and I could use it to relax and surf, as the ads seem to suggest. But it wasn’t only that – I think that sells the device short, because with applications like Pages on the device it really makes it far more usable for the everyday things than I imagined. So what is the knock on effect then of this?
Will I still use my iPhone as I was? Thinking if I hardly use it as a ‘phone’, do I downgrade? Choose something different? Well I have been looking at the latest deals on mobile phones to see what my options are. I am waiting for today mostly because, will the announcement today completely wow me, or will I stick with my current iPhone? Phones for you, P4U is one place I have been looking and I am tempted to downgrade… just get a phone that is only a phone and use my iPad for all the other things. The space on this device makes email and reading a really different experience than what I am used to on my phone.
Rumours are that the 3G or similar will be sold at a much lower price and with smaller capacity, to get those customers who have been undecided about getting the phone. This might be an interesting step especially if people are convinced that Apple will be making most of its income from apps in the future.
Hopefully tonight will bring a bit more magic and I will be wanting to get the iPhone as much as I did before I got my iPad…

I have to agree the scooter part of the ad is insane! There is no way I would do that. I have spoken with someone who is really up on technology and they predict that this device will eventually come down to maybe $99, and be as common as desktops became… it would be great if that happened, but I guess time will tell.
If I had an ipad i might use the iphone less at home, but out and about the ipad would be too big unless im on a train or buss or something.
the apple add showing someone riding pillion on the back of a scooter with it in their arms is just silly you wouldnt hold a £500+ gadget like that and unless you are a woman with a handbag or a man with a manbag/manpurse carrying it around could be cumbersome
