Welcome to the new look Apps and Hats. This weeks apps were SkyNews, Digg (Diggnation), Dunnit and WeeMee. We also mentioned ZombieBooth and Cool Wallpapers~

A Whole lotta FREEBIES today!

SkyNews Developer: BSkyB Version: 1.2

Sky News International $2.99 for the USA version.
The Uk version is  FREE [Updated April 2010 to contain Election news] This news app now also has streaming video news.

This is an easy app to get along with. Everything seems to be in the right place and the links are easy to understand. There is the basic news section, which has worldwide and British news, You then have this new election section for all the up to the minute new about what is happening, it then follows on with the video section, which is a great addition. There is then the Your Report area where you can submit your own news stories, followed by discussion button which is just two links to the blog or forum. The app is FREE in the UK which makes it a must have.

ZombieBooth: Alive in 3D photo Developer: MotionPortrait, Inc. Version: 1.0

$0.99

I love this app, it’s hideous! It works so quick and with no hassle, you take a photo, or use one from your library, and it sends it for processing, which only takes a few seconds, then it puts it back on your device. You then have yourself zombiefied, and it moves! It bites at the screen and has creepy zombie sounds. This has been a buck well spent. I do realize that it might be a bit of a one trick pony, but it is the app I show everyone now. I’ve zombified my whole family! You ARE NEXT!

DIGG Developer: Digg Inc. Version 1.1.0

 FREE

This is the official Digg app released to go with site changes and a new CEO, Kevin Rose… Because it’s free you might want to give it a try, I found myself preferring it to the web site, I always seem to click on the digg link that links to a headline that links to a link that links to a headline that links to…. you get my point. Whereas with the app I found I was able to get to the information a lot quicker, and I can also share the stories via all the usual networks. It’s not yet perfect but it”s a 1.0 so I’m sticking with it.

Diggnation On The Go Developer: JDub Studios LLC Version: 2.0.1

FREE

Now this app hasn’t been updated since October 2008, so it”s pretty much the way it’s always been, but it does what it says, it plays the Diggnation episodes. Some of the  criticisms of the app are that you don”t know which episodes you have seen and which you haven’t. It basically is just a list of the episodes with no functions or features. Also lately there have been a lot of comments about it crashing and I suppose without an update in that length of time, it’s likely that it won’t be compatible with all the OS changes.

Dunnit Developer: RunLoop Ltd Version: 1.1.2

 FREE

For a free app it is worth a try! For a paid app it is worth a try so you should nab it while it is free, I can’t see that lasting! It”s a to do app, and we have seen a fair few of these, but it has an alternative slant to it – it links up with the social media sites – including Open Feint – and you can compete with your friends. What a brilliant idea to really get you motivated. I”m not terribly competitive ;) but I like the idea that you could have certain tasks that you really are putting off but the idea that your friends will see them unfinished may just get you t o use it.

I”m not sure what will happen when the Game Center from Apple will be introduced, if they will be connected to that so watch this space, but you can also tweet out your completed tasks… fun way to get things done!

Cool Wallpapers Developer: Appsilicious Version: 1.1.0

 FREE

And there is also a Cool Wallpapers for iPad FREE

Great little app that has over 15 thousand free wallpapers… I was curious too try this, to see if it was just junky wallpapers, and I was so surprised at how many I loved! They have such a wide mix of different styles, that this could potentially be a downfall of the app – if you don’t have a lot of patience then you may find it all too much. You flip through them four at a time and then just click the one you want. It opens the image full size, then you click it to download if you like it.  That”s all. Easy!

Wee Mee Avatar Creator Developer: WeeWorld Inc. Version: 1.1.0

$0.99

There are 33 Million Wee Mee”s out there! That is a whole lotta WeeMee! I will not admit how many I have now created but if you are a contact and I don’t have your photo- consider yourself Wee’d!

This app is easy to use, and has no learning curve at all which is brilliant, all ages are able to just launch the app and create some fun characters. There are a variety of accessories and something for everyone. I am so glad I tried the app as it sat on my phone for quite a while, and once I had seen all these images in my photo album I had to find out what it was for. If you have kids – of any age, then it is worth the investment. A great price, a great app with great results.

*phews* All those apps!! I hope you liked the show *eek* the new format is here to stay, so as always if you have any ideas or suggestions be sure to Tweet me, leave a comment or send us an email. Always happy to talk. Also if you have an app you think would be awesome on the show – let me know!
