This week these high flying gals take you through some great apps.  There are some laughs, some apps and of course, those hats~

Welcome to *Sarah*, the new app girl who is on the case with finding you the best apps there are!! To start with she brings you GreenFlag Rescue, which she got as soon as she got her iPhone to help her get out of a break down situation!

GreenFlag Rescue Me Developer: Altaine Ltd. UK Only.

FREE

This was the first breakdown service to have an app on the iPhone, and what a great idea it is! It is one of those apps that really makes me think that the phone is more than worth the cash. You don”t have to be a member of Green Flag, and there are several ways to use the apps.

  • Rescue me is used if you have broken down and you click that so it will pinpoint where you are and send the service out to you.
  • Traffic Updates, lets you click on an interactive map and see real time traffic. There is also, Offers, Remind me and Driving advice.

Their recent update includes 01 & 02 numbers so they are free to ring from a mobile. This was implemented after it was suggested by their users! Brilliant. Top app for anyone in the UK, it”s free and it”s worth it even if only for the live maps of traffic.

The Game Trail Developer: Fabrication Games Version: 1.0

 FREE

This app is in it”s first inception and for a first go it”s pretty darn good. The idea is basically with so many apps out there, it is difficult to find out which ones to buy, (hmmm sounds like a show I know), so it has the game ”trailers” in the app so you can watch the videos from the developers. It also has reviews about the games.

Although the idea itself is great, there still needs to be more content. Once their database starts to fill up with as many apps and their videos as possible, then this app will really fly. I also wonder though, (as some developers do actually do videos of their apps), what will happen to them? Worth a look at if you do like your apps, but keep in mind it”s just the start and I hope it will get better and better. It”s Free so try it ~

Here File File Developer: Graceful Construction Version 1.1.1

 $9.99

This app won #1 utility application the first ever App Star awards. (I was a member of the Jury and I had high hopes for this app when I saw it.) This app delivers. I use MobileMe app as well so I am used to seeing ways that a structure of files would be presented and ways to access what you need. This app is fast for what it does. And the layout of your files / folders / directories are exactly like they are on your mac! Even all my silly little icons too!

File File connects to your Macs via a server app that runs in the menu bar. So you will need to download that first or this app won”t work for you. Once you have it running, you can connect to your Mac from anywhere outside your local network. It uses Bonjour and UPnP to set everything up for you. Some users may need to manually forward ports and there is a FAQ for details.

The formats that are supported are…

  • Documents: Microsoft Office, iWork, pdf, rtf, rtfd, txt, html
  • Media: plays music, streams video, presents pictures. It”s a little complex but the gist is if the iPhone will play it, then Here, File File will too.

I liked the icon, I liked the name and I liked the way the files are presented. It”s a really well polished app, easy to use and I think is worth the money if you do need to access your files while on the go.

Web toolbox Developer: TapFactory Version 1.2

 $0.99

This app is very unusual to all the apps out there. It provides you with over 70 bookmark tools for the safari browser on your iPhone. This may not sound very impressive, but it is. I actually use Safari now on my iPhone, where before I had abandoned it because I felt it was too awkward. Once you do install the bookmark, it”s there and you don”t have to open toolbox again or re-install.

Some of the ones they mention on the App Store are:

  • Find in Page, just like your desktop browser has.
  • Search tools. you can quickly search Bing, IMDB, Google Images, AllMusic, Dictionary…
  • Format any page for your phone. This is brilliant for news sites that haven”t made it easier for us to read the content we want.
  • Shopping tools you can quickly search loads of sites, Amazon, eBay, PriceGrabber…
  • Post to Facebook. This makes it easy to be browsing and then be able to just post the site you are on straight onto your Facebook profile.
  • Twitter! Same thing, you can post straight to twitter.
  • My favorite: Save as PFD. You can save the pages as a pdf and email it. LOVE  THAT!

There are way more but these may be some of the popular ones. I have installed probably way too many but they were so useful I couldn”t stop! The first time you set it up, it does take a bit of re-reading to figure out how to do it, but once you have done it it really is easy. You may worry that once this app has been ”of use” and installed the ones you need, that you will have wasted your cash cause you won”t need it again. I would disagree with that because they are updating it and including new bookmarks, and anyway, I think it is totally worth the cash even if it was a one off. Like I said, I was really not using the browser at all because the lack of features and the pain it was to use it. Now, I use it again. This means it has added hugely to my iPhone use. oh-oh!

(oh and how sweet is that icon)

Lastly we look at VoucherCloud Developer: Invitation Digital Ltd. Version: 1.0.4

This app will try to help you find those bargains. It”s important to note that there seems to be a website that you can go to to access these codes and offers as well as an email subscription so you don”t even have to go to the site. There are, what the app calls “premium” content offers which they are charging in app for. I would be tempted to sneak a peak online first to see if it is charged online (chances are it isn”t) and then nab the code from there. (You can print them for free, from home etc…)

Wow that is all we had time for today, so many fantastic apps out there I hope you found some of them useful. If you have a favorite app that you would like to see on Apps and Hats, as well as get a shout out from the girls then please Tweet us, send us an email, or leave a comment on our blog. (yup right here folks)

Hope you had as much fun as we did and see you in… 2 weeks time ~ The Girls
