This week the girls have some fantastic apps that you may want to try. From the clever VoiceBand to the helpful FastMall… here””s a rundown of the apps featured in todays show~

K.E.R.N. The Final Fontier Developer: FORMation Version:1.0.2

$0.99

This is a beautifully designed app that will appeal to designers or those with a design inclination. It””s been around for a long time now and we wanted to be sure you didn””t overlook it. Thanks to @spotter5 for the find.

FallDown! Developer: Hannes Jensen (no website to link to) Version: 1.2

Free but with a $0.99 in app purchase to disable ads.

This is a simple game where you just have to have the ball fall down through the gaps. You stay alive as long as possible. There have been some reviews left by people who have this game saying that there are now – since an update, a lot of ads on the game. They do offer a version for $0.99 so that will be your best bet if you don””t like ads. This game has big similarities to the interesting app called ...TM which actually has a name that isn””t searchable so they are only getting known through word of mouth. (We are planning a little post about them so you could have a look at their apps for yourself.)

VoiceBand Developer: Wave Machine Experts Version 1.1

 $2.99

This app turns you voice into an instrument, well – into several instruments! You can record complete songs just by using your voice. Thanks to @everythingabili for the top find! I like how it has an alternative interface to most of the other music apps out there. Also if you watch the video of how to record it really helps and you will have a lot of fun with it. It””s great for all ages too, kids find this pretty fun just to make some goofy little songs as well as people mapping out their songs on the app. Just do be aware that it won””t be as quick and easy as the demonstration and will take a few tries to get it right.

Lexic Developer: Kieffer Bros. Version 2.1.3

[EDs Note: This game is now called ABCA]

$2.99 (down from $4.99)

Lexic Lite FREE

Lexic is a great word game, it was one that completely captured my attention. I haven””t played a huge number of word games because I just didn””t find many of them that engaging. This one was so much more than a word puzzle and the different types of letters really kept me interested as well as the different modes of play.  The developers site details how they spent a year getting this app right, and I really think it is slick. It””s worth a look at the developers site for the video of the game. There are different modes of play, from Quest where you collect gold letters to progress to the next level. This sounds simple but there are also tiles with bombs on the that you have to disarm, and virus tiles too. There are also some tiles which change their letters so you have to use them while you can.

Anyway I could spend a whole post just on this game but that would be silly right now so do have a read on the App Store or the dev””s site.

Slango Developer: SchroederDev Version: 1.1

$0.99

This Urban Dictionary does what it says. It shows you a new urban word and it””s modern definition every day. I like checking it and seeing what they have come up with but I also like selecting random where it will give me random words to look up. Yes, some are pretty rude and obviously edited by a teenage boy but the principe of the app and what it does are great. I like having a new “urban word” to play with during the day! You can also favorite the words if there are any particular ones that you really like or don””t want to forget. Just a simple app that does what it does well. Not a brilliant interface but hey, it””s cheep, cheerful and I like it!

FastMall Developer: Mindsmack Version: 2.0

FREE

This is an app with enormous potential. If you have ever been to a typical Mall in America then you will have at some point been lost in one! Whoa man they are massive! I would typically spend a considerable amount of time looking for the maps to find where I need to go to. Also, and this will appeal to EVERYONE, you shake it and it shows you where there nearest toilet facilities are! That is pure genius!

Other areas that are being developed are things like notification from the shops in the mall when there is a sale or promotion, reviews of stores or services like restaurants, new maps…

Note: They updated this January 30th and now all maps are free and they have smoothed out any crashing issues that some users were having. For this price and the potential usefulness I think it””s a total winner. They are always asking the folks who get the app if there are malls that they would like to see added and they are working to get as many as possible.

Zen Boundtm Developer: SecretExit Version:1.2.2

Hattie loved this game. She wasn””t sure how to best describe it (yes it took 3 takes!) to make it appeal to you all, but this beautifully designed app has won a truck load of awards, and has been reviewed by nearly the entire galaxy, but we wanted to be sure that you didn””t miss it. This game really will not have competitors still as it is so unique. The purpose of the game is for you to wrap a 3d statue with string,  this then paints the small statue, and you have to paint a certain percentage of it to pass the level. The ambiance background music is also worth listening to.

Hope you””ve enjoyed todays show and all these really great apps. Don””t forget if you ever want to suggest an app to us or even an idea for clothing then please get in touch :D EAVB_JLSVARCKOU

Just a reminder as well folks – we often tweet promocodes throughout the two weeks once an episode is launched from our @appsandhats account. So you might get lucky and win one on there :)

  3. CMoz says:

Zen Bound is pretty captivating and it might be because you just can’t do that without an iPhone (or iPod touch). Really imaginative and so beautifully executed too. I love when someone takes the time to make a fantastic app!!
