SALE $0.99 ($2.99 ) Developer: McDSP Version 1.1.1 This is the site for Retro Recorder, but you can get more details about the company and their work with sound recording software (they make audio software products for music and post production on a platform called Pro Tools) at www.mcdsp.com.
For me I was first wanting to give this app a try because I love the retro look of it. The icon is superb and I love it on my iPhone. The quick easy way to record, just hitting the record button after launch, mean that it there is no messing around.
When you record there is a little toggle called Audio Level Extension, or ALX as they have termed it, to maximize the audio. I have been recording with this enable and it is the default choice. There also is a little record quality toggle near the ‘cassette‘ so you can set it to high quality. As it records the little cassette turns as it did back in the day and I loved this nice little animation effect, it all adds to the authenticity.
Once you have recorded you have the cassettes that you can rename. This is done through the manage button at the top once you are in cassette view. Some folks have left comments that this seemed awkward rather than just clicking on the cassette to change the name of it. I didn’t find it difficult and when you click on the cassette you can rename it, delete it or export it. This is done through wifi and uses the similar convention as the other USB style apps out there. You go to a specified URL (the app tells you where) on your browser. (see image below)
That is the view in the browser and although some comments say it was awkward it was not my experience at all. I typed in the URL and it launched right away, and was easy to manage within that window. I thought it looked in keeping with the app actually and totally commend them for this.
Overall this is a top interface and makes recording quick, easy and well organized. Keeper!
