My Songbook

Picture 13

MySongbook – Lyrics & Chords $1.99 Developer: Or Sharir

Version: 1.2.1

MySongbook is an app for finding, viewing and managing your song’s chords and lyrics. It then means you can carry your songbook with you everywhere.

MySongbook uses something called Chord Pro Format, to display chords.  There is also support for plain-text mode for tabs, but once you try the chord pro format I don’t think you will be going back to plain-text.  There is a help file that you can look at to get started but I found it pretty easy to work out from just searching for the chords and them selecting them for the app. Of course it depends on what chords are already out there and their accuracy but I was able to find a good selection of music to add to my personal library. (and so was my son)

Picture 14The main features:

  • Finds new chords within its own browser
  • You can use a zip file if you want to add multiple files
  • you can rotate your device so it is landscape for a larger viewing area
  • auto scrolling, which you can set at different speeds
  • tapping on a chord will bring up a chord diagram, I really love this
  • Transposing chords is a new feature and was the result of user feedback asking for this feature, they responded by including it and this is one of the features I use the most. I’m not a great guitar player, and this really helps me when there’s some difficult chords I just transpose it so I can use my capo to play the song
  • there is also basic editing or manually typing of song chords

Overall, this app was far better then I was hoping for. I had tried some similar types of apps and they didn’t have the features I wanted and they were more trouble to enter in the songs. This app makes it much easier and the formatting of the songs looks great. Just be aware that the sites may not have all the music you are looking for and it really will depend on the sites you look at and go to in order to make this app a success.

Lastly, it does take a bit of time to enter in the songs if you are new to the app, and like me, I wanted as many of my songs in as possible, but you could maybe just enter in one or two a day .
