Game on: 5 hot games!

There are so many fabulous and addictive games out there that we wanted to bring your attention this week to 5 that I can’t stop playing! All of these apps are addictive in their own ways and have different features that may appeal to you. As always most of them have a lite or free version so it’s worth giving them a try. Hope you enjoy them as much as I do…. I’m off to get a highscore~

Orbital Developer: Bitforge Ltd. Version 1.2.1

[itunes link="http://itunes.apple.com/gb/app/orbital/id324012853?mt=8&uo=4" title="bitforge_Ltd-ORBITAL"] $1.99

FREE

This is a simple puzzle game where you score points by destroying the orbs. The game play is simple, you shoot orbs into space, or ‘the grid’ as it;s called by using your cannon and that will expand into a “3″. Then, every time you hit that 3, that number will go down, 2, 1, then ultimately disappear. Because of this, you could technically have endless game play, but, if one of your orbs hits that line of death, then it’s game over.

It sounds really easy but actually, one orb in the wrong place and it can be over pretty quickly. I found when I was playing that I started off just firing everything randomly and pretty quickly. This soon changed into becoming far more considered and planning where I needed to hit in order to play for longer. Worth your cash because its a game that you really can play for a long time, and in different sittings.

Mini Squadron Developer : Tak Fung Version 1.11

 $2.99

 FREE

This was such a nice surprise when I played it. I love the controls on this game which really can make or break a game. They are really responsive and doing a loop-de-loop is so easy and fun. In this little shooter game you are the pilot of an aircraft of your choice and there are 50 different planes to unlock. I will admit that my son has unlocked far more planes then me in a shorter time, but it makes for an interesting multiplayer game. The local wifi multiplayer is where this game really is fun and you should grab the person nearest to you with an iPod touch or iPhone, and get them to grab the app and play against you!

There are 8 Levels and 7 different weapons as well as different gameplay, there are 8 different pickups and you can listen to Mozart! :D you can play your own music too if you prefer.

Perform daring aerial shenanigans with a super-fluid control system and experience the joy of freedom in the air!

That describes the game perfectly.

Vernx now called vParticle Plus Developer: Vernacki Brothers Version:2.0.0

 $1.99

 FREE

This is an interesting game described as an action physics game. You have 50 particles under your control and you need to navigate them all through a variety of different mazes. Some times one or two (or a lot more) particles get trapped, or left behind, [EDITOR amendment: as long as 25 or more particles have made it to the end you will pass the level!]. There are 80 levels which will keep you very busy. There are Challenge, Sandbox and Hardcore for different gameplay modes, there are 8 game themes, and even your particles are customizable. I have played it on but an iPhone 3G and an iPod touch and it is very responsive.

When I first launched the game I was just amazed at the opening screen with all those little particles, and actually stayed on that screen for ages before even starting the game! It has instructions which take you through all the basics of game play through getting you to try it which is great.

Overall I love this game and all those little particles, you find real moments of frustration if you leave one or two behind which I just love, I get pretty involved when I play this game. Worth a look at. Please note, the screen shots do not do this game justice at all!

Space Invaders Infinity Developer: TAITO Corporation Version: 2.0.0

$4.99

FREE

This game is one that you will keep going back to because it changes according to how you play. The more you play, the more the game evolves. It is taking the basics of Space Invaders, and completely adds rocket fuel to that game, bringing it up to speed for play in to 2010′s. As you play, you unlock new stages and new system features for a whole new shooting game experience!

Some of the features, from the developers description:

  • Global leaderboards added for three main categories (High Score, Number of Chains, Number of Nagoya Attacks). Separate rankings exist for both the standard game and Music Stages. OpenFeint.
  • Support for in-game Achievements has been added: 50 Achievements total, 5 of them Secret Achievements.
  • Players may now upload their high scores and unlocked Achievements to Twitter and Facebook.

The original Space Invaders, which I had to get for the iPhone because of it’s classic status, no longer cut it for me after experiencing gaming decades later, but this game really brings it back to the playing field and it can rival the big boys. Worth the cash.

Lastly, we look at Bomb Master Physics Puzzler Developer: Ivan Starchenkov Version: 1.0.5

 $1.99

This game allows you to “blow up” the bridges in controlled explosions like the experts would do. A few things to comment on is I really like the way this game looks. The design of it and bridges and the background work really well. You have several bombs to choose from which you buy and set up for the explosions. I like it, and the idea of it, but there is still some work to go with this app. Once you have successfully blown up the bridge, it does take too long to let us know, and some of the controls are a little fiddly.

I wouldn’t discount it though, the developers have been working and improving it and I think it has so much potential and the idea of it is really fun. I like it and hope they fix the few bits about it that is keeping it from being a top contender.

Hope you enjoyed the selection of apps this week. I have really enjoyed looking at games that are a little more creative and unusual then what’s out there. These games will keep you busy but you can easily grab them and go rather then being tied to a level which is great. Perfect for all those times when you are sat waiting.

If you have any favorites we would love to hear about them.
