Fluke

FLUKE  FREE This is an app that finds you apps, randomly!

Shake or tap the button to have a random app suggested to you. This can be a great way to discover apps.

Dev: Rusty Brick Version:1.1

GOOD

The app as describe on the developers site:

  • shake or click to find a random app
  • limit the results to specific categories
  • limit the results to free and/or paid apps
  • rate apps you know about
  • email apps to friends without leaving the app
  • view a history of the latest apps you’ve discovered

The good thing about this app is sometimes the App Store is so large now that it becomes difficult to know how to find apps or choose them. Being able to limit the type of result is great too, if you are in the mood for a game then you can just have that type of result. I typically don’t like how all of these style of apps (not their fault but more an iPhone limitation) has to then launch the apps store app, so you come out of the program. This all takes some time and then to click back on the app etc… I tend to go through a few apps and then just take a screen capture of the ones I would like to check out on the app store later.

Shaking to find an app is a neat little feature, and you can email the app to your friends. (or to yourself of course)

TO IMPROVE

The interface on this app isn’t the best, but I suppose it’s not an app that you will spend lots of time on in one sitting, but more and app you will check into regularly. There are ads as well and I wonder if they should make an ad free option.  I would also recommend that you try it with the settings changed to not show free apps. There just seem to be too many bad free apps out there and I did find it a bit annoying to have a lot of pretty poor apps in a row.  It might be a nice idea if they had a way of not displaying too many lower quality apps. I’m not sure how that would work though.

OVERALL

Overall I think this is a pretty good app to have if you sometimes just want a new app and maybe something that you wouldn’t typically look at. Because it’s free it makes it worth having, but I would pay for an app that had this same feature but with a better interface.

I can’t wait to see it. Would appreciate if you let us know and we will update the post about it!

  2. Thanks for the review. Very timely. We are planning a new version of fluke within a couple of weeks. The largest change is a new slick interface. I am sure you will love it!
