All Apps:Episodes 11- 20

These are the fabulous apps we reviewed from episodes 11-20, enjoy.

EPISODE ELEVEN

Doodle Jump

This has really been a big hit. The developers really take care of us and issue new updates, new bosses and new backgrounds mean more action. For the price of this app, some have spent many hours on it’s simple game play. Also it was one of the early game developers to go with this ‘sketchbook’ appearance that is almost a bit too popular now. Suits this game well and it’s really worth a try.

Doodle Jump $0.99

Bed Bugs

This is one of my favorites.

I loved this game so much and was so excited with the different styles of bed bugs and levels that I couldn’t wait to get to the next level and was completely obsessed until I could complete it. There are times in the game when you are frantically using two hands to try to kill all the bugs. It seems to be one of those games that if you show someone, they have a little try, and then they buy it. For me I would like more levels and ultimately an endurance level would meet my demanding obsession. Well it might.

Bed Bugs Lite / FREE

Bed Bugs $1.99

Car Mania

Great game, similar to the Flight Control styles. They have added an additional map since it was reviewed and the game play is still fabulous. I also liked how they also do the opposite in the game, with a Road Rage level, where you try to cause as much chaos as possible!

Car Mania $0.99

EPISODE TWELVE

iKidnap

Fun email app that lets you write in the style of a kidnapper! If you like that kind of thing. Options though to save it as an image and email etc.

iKidnap FREE

iKidnap $0.99

uArt

Funny app from Gillette that lets you take a photo or use an existing one, and then give them a beard, mustache or both. You then use the razor to ‘shave’ the persons picture. Really funny app to take out and use. the razor also vibrates. You can change the way it looks before you start to shave by altering the sizes, shapes and even colours of it.

uArt FREE

Archie: Freshman Year #1

Since looking at this app they now have more free ones, and ones you can buy more in the series. I was really happy to see it. I lived on Archie when I was growing up and one of the childhood memories is going to the supermarket with my mom purely so I could get an Archie. I had thousands of these and I still do now which I have passed on to my kids. But this is great, having an app means that we can carry Archie with us wherever we go.

One More Byte:

Blimp – The Flying Adventures

This platformer has a really slick interface and was a great idea. The game takes some concentration as the blimp can be a little difficult to navigate but it is worth it. Have a try of the free on to see if you like the style but it really is one of the most beautiful interfaces I have seen.

Blimp Lite / FREE

Blimp $0.99

Eliss

This game is Winner of IndieCade Auteur Award and Selected for Innovation in Game Design – IGF award. That’s impressive. The style is so retro and the idea behind it seems simple enough, to move the shapes so that they intersect to create a larger shape… hmm I’m not doing a great job of explaining it but it is worth a look at!

Eliss Lite / FREE

$2.99

PicPosterous

Lets you post from your device to your Posterous account.

PicPosterous FREE

EPISODE THIRTEEN

Postino

They have recently improved delivery times, 3-5 days to Europe and USA. It lets you take a picture on holiday and then they send it by real post to who you want to. I really like this because if you are on holiday you have to find some touristy shop to get postcards and then get stamps write the address and then send them. I’m not a fan, so with this app it’s ideal. Take a snap of where you are or what you are doing, and then choose from your address contacts. Then they mail it after printing it for you.

Postino FREE

Photoswap

Fun app that is just full of randomness. All it does is sends you a random photo, and you send one back. Yup that really is all but it can be really hilarious. People take a lot of photos of their pets, or work rooms and it’s great to get photos from all over the world.

Photoswap FREE

Huetility

Colourblind simulator.  This lets you take photos or use existing ones to see how something would look according to what kind of colour blindness they have. Great tool for designers etc.

Huetility Lite $0.99

Photography app that lets you turn your photos into ones that look like they were taken with a Polaroid camera. You can also ‘write’ on the bottom of the images. Really nice styling to add to your photos.

This app works like a charm – really amazing when you first try it. Take a photo of an item, and it will find that item for you – reviews, prices, any information… Really amazing! I like this app a lot and it works really well for games and books.

Fling

Top Paid app in UK, Australia and Canada for months, top Ten in USA for a month. This game basically requires you to ‘fling’ those cute characters out of the way to solve the puzzle. Nice game that you can pick up and play so perfect if you are waiting for something.

Meet Me

If you ever are trying to make plans and can’t decide where to meet then this app will be for you.  You set the locations of person A and person B, you can let the app find your location or choose a location from your address book if you like, and then you let it choose a place in the middle point.  You can tell it what type of place you are looking for, and you can set the distance so maybe you want it closer to one person than the other. I really liked this app and think it’s useful. The interface is straightforward and easy to use.

Meet Me $0.99

Unique app idea. It basically stops your music playing when you stop moving. Perfect if you are walking and if you are at the traffic lights, or stop to talk to a friend. You can set the sensitivity as well as override it if you need to. Simple, does what it says.

Brisk Walk $0.99

EPISODE FIFTEEN

Right Move

This is a UK specific app but there are similar apps in other countries app stores. It links up with specific real estate agents and then shows you the homes for sale, details, locations etc. It is basically a really efficient way to house hunt. Most agencies are getting away from posting out huge packs of paper with house details and are putting everything online so this is a logical next step.

Right Move FREE

Qlock2

Alternative looking clock. Really nice interface of displaying the time in words.

Qlock2 $0.99

BirdBrain

Helps you to keep track of twitter accounts. Who’s following, who you blocked, it’s the app for all the twitter following / follower stats.

BirdBrain $2.99

Reportage

Alternative looking interface. It’s the only one I have seen of this kind. Shows all the avatars in grid arrangement. You can have favorite people so that you can see their tweets quicker and easier, and you can also hide people from your twitter view.

Reportage $1.99

One More Byte:

Aardvark

This is a question  / answer service. You can ask a question and then someone with that knowledge area will reply to you. Really interesting app and great if you have time to kill to go answer some questions. When I have used it I always wished there were more questions as sometime they are all answered for the areas that I have selected. Fun though to get a reply from someone!

Aardvark FREE

DropBox

This app accompanies the great DropBox service. You can access all your files and even choose them to be downloaded on your phone if they are files you access often or worry about not having a connection where you are.

DropBox FREE

DoodleSwap

This is similar to the Photoswap app we looked at but instead of using photos you draw doodles. Sure most of the doodles are pretty quick and effortless but every now and again you get a real beauty and it is really fun if you are in long boring meetings~

DoodleSwap $0.99

EPISODE SIXTEEN

Little Red Hen

One of the better children’s books for the iPhone that Hattie brought to you. The book is really nicely illustrated and makes for a nice read with your kids.

Little Red Hen $0.99

Little Runner

This is a cute game with a nice alternative interface. The game play can get a bit quick and I find I have to take breaks because I just can’t get past certain levels if I am not concentrating, but basically the little runner is happily listening to music walking and you just need to be sure the path is clear for him. Sounds easy.. don’t be too sure about that. Recently added a doodle jump easter egg in their latest version.

Little Runner Lite / FREE

Little Runner $0.99

Genesis

Beautiful game where you have to ultimately light the planets up. There is one field of light that you must direct to hit all the planets, when you do they light up. You can do this in different was and it becomes a game of strategy, but it’s pretty relaxing because of the nature of the game.

Genesis Lite / FREE

Genesis $0.99

One More Byte:

Tweetie 2

2009 apple design award winner. This is Tweetie completely redesigned. It came under some fire when it was released as the original Tweetie owners didn’t understand why this should be a new app. But the dust has since settled and everyone seems happy with it.

They included the abvility to just swipe across a tweet which makes it a really quick and easy to use application. I wish more Twitter apps had this feature and I swipe everything to see if it works in other apps!

Packed with features it lead the way when it was released but can it keep the momentum?

Tweetie 2 $2.99

Photoshop.com Mobile

When this was first released it was USA only which was upsetting for folks. Everyone wanted to try it and being free, it really seems to be the best image editor on the iPhone. So many features and so easy to use too, they really got it right with this app.

Photoshop.com Mobile FREE

EPISODE SEVENTEEN

Inkvaders

Is a game that Hattie looked at and is a quick action game. Worth checking out the free version but you may find yourself getting addicted.

Inkvaders Lite / FREE

Inkvaders $0.99

Fitness Builder

Is now on version 2.4, and what I initially thought was a brilliant all encompassing app has gotten even better! It basically lets you build your own custom workouts, but it is just so much more than I can even write down in this space. It has videos of the movements so you can see how to do them, it has choices of exercises with or without equipment, it puts your exercises together telling you of the rep numbers and then rests, and has a timer so you wait when it tells you to. They keep adding new pre-made routines and it really has everything you can imagine. It will suit you if you have your own equipment, if you have no equipment or even to take it to a gym.

Pump Fitness Builder Pro $9.99

Bleep Test Pro

This is the Bleep test, and even though I really hate the Bleep Test, I love this app. The interface is clear and easy to use which is something all apps should be. There is a Bleep Test Single user version for $0.99, but for the extra buck it its worth getting multiuser.

Bleep Test Single User

Bleep Test Pro $1.99

Weightbot

TapBot always has the slickest of interfaces and on this app I even love the sound as it loads up. This is an app that you enter your weight into and then it will help you achieving your goal by showing on a chart how much you are maintaining or losing and an estimation for when you will reach your goal. erm, or not reach your goal after the Christmas feasting~

WeightBot $1.99

One More Byte:

TwitBird Pro

This has been my favorite twitter app since @fookster showed me it months back. It moves away from the standard or typical interface that we are used to and I find it really intuitive. It works in all the ways I want it to.  If you are a multiple account user I find that can slow down the initial launch of the app so even though you can have multiple accounts I use a different Twitter app now for that.

This app gets better and better every time they update it.

They have 3 levels of the app so you could check out the free on for the styling.

TwitBird Free

TwitBird Premium $1.99

TwitBird Pro $2.99

EPISODE EIGHTEEN

20 Minute Meals

This is actually a better app then I was expecting. Great interface, great recipies and tips, lots of videos… the list goes on really. I have tried a lot of cooking apps and this one just really grabs me. Version 1.1.1 55 new recipes already added, video on demand feature so you can delete watched videos. Keeps getting better and better. Also has dropped in price too!

Jamie Oliver, 20 Minute Meals $4.99

Canabalt

Fast paced game that only requires you to use your finger to jump. Sounds simple but man oh man I’m still so bad at it. There is an online version that you can try so check it out.

Canabalt $2.99

PeepHole

Brings you the images uploaded on Twitter. You can do searches, look at the trends and find whos sending what near you. Swipe to delete saved searches is new in the latest version 1.0.2

Peep Hole $1.99

Night Stand

An app that you can use as a night stand. You can dim it if it’s too bright and use it as an alarm clock. These style of apps seem to be temperamental according to updates etc, so really have a look into it before you buy it. We wouldn’t want to be blamed by anyone for not getting up in time!

Night Stand $0.99

About Time

Simple little app that lets you know the time through the use of phrases rather than precise time. I like it for that exact reason. “It’s a quarter past three” that’s my kind of time! Also has quotes when you tap the time.

About Time $0.99

Lonely Planet Auckland

This app waas reviewed through the magic of the Internet, |we seem to have made a trip to New Zealand this week with the wonderful Kathleen(@angelfish007) Green who is taking you through the Auckland travel app by Lonely Planet ($15.99)”

These guides do seem a bit pricy and she noted that it could do with a bit more integration with live events, and local events.

Lonely Planet Auckland City Guide $15.99

EPISODE NINTEEN

Tap Studio

This app let’s you create your own Tap Tap game. So if you are a fan of that style of game then you will probably enjoy this too. Give the free one a try and then there is a Pro upgrade available in game if you want more.

The Impossible Quiz

What can we say – it’s impossible! Just a fun (hmm well painful) app that will help you pass the hours.

Facebook integration was added in the 1.1 upgrade

The Impossible Quiz $0.99

Analytics App

This is one of the most useful apps on my phone. If you have google analytics on any of your websites then this app I think its a necessity. You can use multiple sites, and it lists all the information in really comprehensive way. I found myself just using the app and no longer logging in online to check stats. Worth every penny.

Analytics App $5.99

MusicID with Lyrics

Great app that finds the lyrics of songs. Fantastic interface, I think it’s one of the best music apps out there and they keep responding to their fans by updating features and making it better and better. Great to be able to get lyrics so quickly once capturing the song from a radio or where ever you are listening to it.

MusicID with Lyrics $2.99

Midomi

Sing into this app and it will try to find the song. The most fun about this app is when you get together with your friends and all sing to try to see if it can guess the song. It’s just so fun to see how badly you can sing and it will still find it! Love this!

Midomi $4.99

One More Byte

Arcade Solitaire: TriTowers

This is really quick action Solitaire. If you like solitaire and the best part is the end when you have to sort the card in the correct decks then this app is one you’ll love. REally fast paced and great interface too.

Updated to version 1.1 already and this game was only just out a month or so! There is now a survival mode, no lives, less hints and less time!

TriTowers Lite/FREE

TriTowers $0.99

EPISODE TWENTY

ZipCar

This lets you locate the ZipCars on maps so you can see where they are to pick one up. It is basically an app that will greatly enhance your using this service. Unlocking the car, locking it and honking the horn must be the top fun features of the app.

Box of Socks

This is a Tetris style game with you having to match socks. I realize many of us are guilty of not matching socks in real life so thats why this is so fun! Nice quick pick up and play game.

Box of Socks Lite/FREE

Box of Socks $0.99

Assassin FPS

When I first used this app I was amazed at the brilliant idea of it. Simple – using your camera it lets you see the environment and then you can choose a style of gun and get shooting! What more do you need? I had colleagues texting me in meetings at work to get this app, it’s just such a fun idea. You can also take a picture of where you are and save the bullet holes that you create or even shoot with kisses.

Assassin FPS $0.99

SketchbookMobileX

Probably the best mobile sketchbook there is out there. It has nearly limitless features and is capable of letting you make outstanding images with all the tools it has. The free version has a great range of tools and might be enough for most of you but if you really love the app then it is always worth supporting the company that makes them and getting those extra features.

Sketchbook MobileX FREE

Sketchbook Mobile $1.99

MeterMaid

This app is fantastic for anyone who uses parking lots or has any need for meter usage. Basically you enter the time for your meter into the app and it will send you notification when it’s getting near the time. You can change the amount of time when you want to be notified. It also has a map that will show you where your car is if you want. It’ a perfect app for me because I always worry I will miss my meter timing and erm kinda lose my car once I’ve parked it.
